Joven Vinas Viejas is a young red from old vines, and a great introduction to Goyo García's unique artisanal, minimal-interventionist winemaking style.
A single-vineyard Tempranillo, Joven Vinas Viejas is grown on sandy clay and limestone soils 880 metres above sea level in northern Spain's Ribera del Duero region.
Opening with fresh forest undergrowth scents followed by crispy black currants and black olive hints. The nose then grows deep and dark with sparks of black pepper, eucalyptus and mint, balanced by graphite and iron with a spot of liquor and the spiciness of cumin.
The palate is equally fresh as the nose, with a slightly sweet and bitter flavour. Meaty, long and persistent with increasing complexity, showcasing black olives and savoury spice flavours like saffron, bay leaf and cumin seeds finishing with a saline farewell.
