Albahra comes from a single vineyard that is divided into 3 parcels at 800 meters elevation in the Almansa region, around the town of Albacete. Almansa is located at the southeastern tip of Castilla-La Mancha. The Mediterranean-Continental climate results in wines of consistency: warm days, with a touch of humidity from the Mediterranean, give way to cool nights.
Garnacha Tintorera, also known as Alicante Bouschet, is the primary grape in Albahra. It is a hybrid of the Garnacha and Petit Bouschet grapes. It is one of the few red grapes with dark coloured flesh, hence the name Tintorera, or
Fermented and aged in concrete, the 30 year old vines impart a dark colour. Earthy fresh, blackberry, cherry and dusty-plum fruits mingle with peppery spice, anise and hints of minerality.
Medium weight with pronounced acidity, Albahra is a stellar example of this up and coming D.O.
