Comando G built their reputation chasing old, ungrafted vines in the granite soils of the Sierra de Gredos, and Breña 1er Cru is where that obsession reaches single-parcel precision. This is not a fruit-forward crowd-pleaser — it's a wine for people who want to understand what a place tastes like.

THE TASTE

Perfumed and ethereal on the nose, with red fruit framed by wet granite and dried violet. The palate is narrow and focused — fine-grained tannins, a saline mineral twist in the finish that pulls you straight back in. The 2022 vintage reads younger than it should, almost electric in its freshness. 96+ points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate.

THE STORY

Comando G — winemakers Fernando García and Daniel Gómez — are among the defining voices of the Gredos movement, a loose coalition of producers who proved in the 2000s that old-vine Garnacha from granite mountain soils could rival Burgundy for elegance. Breña 1er Cru (a lieu-dit designation) returns after no 2021 production. Just 3,568 bottles were made, bottled May 2024.

Serve at 16°C. Outstanding with roasted lamb, aged Manchego, or slow-braised pork with herbs. Also worth drinking on its own — it rewards patience in the glass.
