Case of Artifice Blanco 2020 | $40.00 per bottle
Borja Pérez Artífice Blanco 2020 | DO Ycoden-Daute-Isora, Tenerife
Producer: Borja Pérez Viticultor Region: DO Ycoden-Daute-Isora, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain Grape Variety: Listán Blanco (100%, ungrafted old vines) — the same grape as Palomino, transformed by volcanic soil Viticulture: Certified organic, minimal sulphur
The Vibe Listán Blanco is Palomino — the grape behind every bottle of Sherry — grown 700 miles from Jerez on volcanic basalt instead of chalk, without fortification, without flor, and without the export market telling it what to be. The Artífice range works with small parcels managed by local growers across Ycoden-Daute-Isora, maintaining old ungrafted vines that phylloxera never reached. The result is a white that shares almost nothing with its Andalusian cousin except a name.
The Taste Lemon curd, bitter lemon, quinine, and green apple skin with electrifying vibrancy and freshness. On the back end, a subtle nuttiness and persistent saline thread run through to a long, mineral finish. The skin contact adds grip without tannin — texture rather than weight. The Atlantic winds and natural humidity of Ycoden-Daute-Isora keep acidity alive at elevations averaging 800 metres, with the most extreme sites reaching 1,400 metres. This is as far from neutral as Listán Blanco gets.
The Story Borja Pérez is a fourth-generation winemaker from La Guancha in northwest Tenerife, where his family has made wine since 1927. After studying agronomy and working as a firefighter and racing car mechanic, he took over the family winery in 2011 and relaunched it as Ignios Orígenes — pivoting from bulk production to single-vineyard, organically farmed wines built on indigenous varieties. Artífice is his more accessible label, sourced from tiny parcels across the DO that combine to map the diverse soils, altitudes, and microclimates of Ycoden-Daute-Isora in a single bottle. Nothing is added beyond a touch of sulphur at bottling — no temperature control, no fining, no stabilisation. Only 8,000 bottles produced.
Best Enjoyed With Serve well chilled at 8–10°C. Grilled fish, fried calamari, salt cod, mojo verde, or fresh oysters. The saline finish and high acidity make it one of the most seafood-compatible whites in the Cosecha portfolio.
