Grégory Pérez freely admits you need a few loose screws to farm grapes in the highest, rockiest corners of Bierzo. Crazy as the mission sounds, one sip proves his high-altitude obsession pays off big time. Brezo Blanco is Mengoba’s mountain-fresh white—thirst-quenching, expressive, and packed with savory energy. It is an absolute joy to drink on a Tuesday night, serious enough for sommeliers, and offers tremendous value for the glass.

The Taste

Mouth-watering, juicy, and delightfully pulpy on the palate. Bright aromas and flavors of preserved lemon, quinine, and crunchy pear fruit are balanced by a fine, textural weight from five months of lees contact. It closes with a driven, wonderfully tonic finish and a lingering savory complexity that makes it impossible to pour just one glass.

The Story

Trained in Bordeaux at legendary estates like Cos d’Estournel, Grégory Pérez chose to carve out his own path in the wild, dramatic landscape of Bierzo, founding Bodegas Mengoba to make wines as natural and reflective of terroir as possible. Working with native yeasts and minimal intervention, Grégory draws from small plots of 20- to 80-year-old vines planted in sandy loam, clay, and slate at 500+ meters elevation. By blending mountain-grown Godello with a dash of rare, native Doña Blanca, he captures the true, unvarnished spirit of Bierzo’s cool Atlantic-Continental climate.

Serve chilled around 8–10°C. Outstanding paired with oysters, grilled octopus, roasted chicken, tapas, sea bass, or aged sheep’s milk cheeses like Manchego. A natural fit at the dinner table.
